Holiday cottages are the new black
A Holiday Cottage is a type of holiday accommodation that is very popular in the United Kingdom. Holiday cottages are usually small homes that holidaymakers can rent and run as though they were their own home for the duration of their stay.
Because guests are on holiday in a home together sometimes with three generations in bigger rental cottages, this means that there is a very pleasant atmosphere to the holiday.
Young children and babies are easily accommodated in holiday cottages because parents don't feel pressure from other families who don't have young children. This means that young families often find holiday cottages to be the ideal place to stay.
Holiday cottages give you the freedom to eat in at home or eat out at restaurants. If you want to, people who stay in holiday cottages can stay in bed all day and come and go as they please.
By contrast, accommodation in a hotel, hostel or bed and breakfast tends to involve some kind of restriction on the time of day that guests have to vacate their rooms for cleaning.
Holiday Cottages can be found all around the UK and you can choose from rural country houses, town houses, and little cottages on the edges of villages. Popular destinations include:

- A favourite cure for drunkenness in the 600's involved taking juice extracted from acorns.
- Norse legend says that Thor hid from a thunderstorm under an oak tree leading to the belief that an acorn on your window sill would stop your house being struck by lightning. This is possibly why window blinds traditionally have pull handles shaped as acorns.
- Roman architects used the acorn as a symbolic ornament.
- English folklore tells that if you carry an acorn in your apron pocket you will stay forever young.
- A German folk tale tells of a farmer who promises his soul to Satan but won a reprieve until his first crop was harvested, so he planted acorns and won many extra years of life.
